Develop Your Intuition: Discover and Strengthen Your Psychic Gifts

how to develop intuition

Humanity is collectively experiencing an unprecedented awakening, or rather a re-awakening. While beautiful, this process can be disorienting, even overwhelming. That’s why learning to trust your intuition is more important than ever.

Your intuition, or sixth sense, is your most reliable internal compass during times of spiritual transformation. But before you can strengthen it, you must recognize how it already shows up in your life.

Most of us have one primary intuitive gift that is already active. With practice, you can unlock all four. Let’s begin with a fun and insightful exercise.

EXERCISE: Discover Your Primary Intuitive Gift

Part A:

Think of your favorite movie. Or, choose one you really love if you can’t decide. Now, reflect on why you love it. What’s the first thing that comes to mind? Go with your gut – don’t overthink it. Your answer reveals your primary intuitive strength:

1. Clairvoyance (Clear Seeing)

Movie Clue: You love the visual beauty β€” striking scenery, stunning actors, rich color, or cinematography.

Your Intuition: You receive messages through images, symbols, dreams, or even flashes of light. You may also see orbs or receive intuitive visions in your mind’s eye (third eye).

How to Develop It:

  • Keep a dream journal and reflect on symbols or themes.
  • Ask Archangel Raziel for help remembering dream messages.
  • Drink a glass of water before bed to prompt mid-dream awakenings.
  • Practice visualizing colors, shapes, or scenes during meditation.

2. Clairsentience (Clear Feeling)

Movie Clue: You chose your movie because of how it made you feel i.e. joyful, romantic, nostalgic, or emotionally moved.

Your Intuition: You receive messages through feelings, sensations, and energy shifts. You may feel pressure changes, tingles, or gut reactions. This information comes through your heart chakra.

How to Develop It:

  • Pay attention to subtle emotional shifts and gut feelings.
  • Follow intuitive urges (e.g., call someone, take a different path).
  • Practice breathwork or meditation to heighten body awareness.
  • Keep an intuition journal of feelings you followed and their outcomes.

3. Clairaudience (Clear Hearing)

Movie Clue: You love the soundtrack, musical score, sound design, or meaningful dialogue.

Your Intuition: You receive messages through words, song lyrics, inner voices, or high-pitched tones. Your guides may speak directly in your mind in a loving, clear, repetitive voice.

How to Develop It:

  • Ask your guides questions and listen for the response in your mind.
  • Differentiate loving guidance from egoic or fearful chatter.
  • Ask Source to β€œturn up the volume” so you can hear more clearly.
  • Sit in silence daily and journal any words or phrases that come through.

4. Claircognizance (Clear Knowing)

Movie Clue: You were drawn to the story’s message, concept, or philosophical themes.

Your Intuition: You receive sudden insights, ‘lightbulb’ moments, or complete downloads of information. These often come through the crown chakra, giving you instant clarity or understanding.

How to Develop It:

  • Write down insights as soon as they arrive, even if random.
  • Share your ideas with others. The message may be for them.
  • Trust intuitive flashes, especially when they feel neutral but true.
  • Practice stream-of-consciousness writing to access higher knowledge.

EXERCISE: Find Your Secondary Gift

Part B:

Once you’ve identified your dominant sense, go back through the list. Is there another that resonates as your secondary? Most people use at least two.

Beyond the Four: Additional Intuitive Abilities

In addition to the four most recognized psychic gifts – clairvoyance, clairsentience, clairaudience, and claircognizance – there are several other intuitive senses that may already be active within you. These often operate more subtly, but they are just as valid and valuable.

5. Clairalience (Clear Smelling)

Definition: The ability to receive intuitive messages through smell.

Example: Smelling a loved one’s perfume when no one is around, the scent of flowers during meditation, or the smell of smoke as a warning.

Development Tip:

  • Pay attention to unexplained or sudden smells, especially during spiritual practice.
  • Keep a journal of scent-related intuitions or associations.
  • Ask Spirit to use scent as a sign and be open to its presence.

6. Clairgustance (Clear Tasting)

Definition: The ability to psychically taste something that isn’t physically present.

Example: Tasting your grandmother’s apple pie while thinking of her, or receiving a bitter taste when something feels off.

Development Tip:

  • Stay mindful of any sudden or unusual tastes that arise with emotional or energetic shifts.
  • Ground and center before meals and observe how different foods may connect to memories, spirits, or energetic messages.
  • This clair often works in tandem with mediumship.

7. Clairtangency (Clear Touch) or Psychometry

Definition: The ability to receive information through touch, typically by holding an object, photograph, or visiting a place.

Example: Picking up an old piece of jewelry and sensing the emotions or memories attached to it.

Development Tip:

  • Practice with objects from others and see what impressions come.
  • Write down what you feel, sense, or visualize.
  • Use this ability in a quiet space to avoid energetic noise.

8. Clairempathy (Clear Emotional Knowing)

This is related to clairsentience but is more focused on feeling others’ emotions.

Definition: The ability to deeply feel and absorb the emotional energy of others, often at a distance.

Example: Suddenly feeling sad or anxious when entering a room, only to realize it belongs to someone else.

Development Tip:

  • Learn to distinguish between your emotions and those of others.
  • Use grounding techniques like visualizing roots or calling on Archangel Michael.
  • Practice emotional boundaries and energetic hygiene.

Develop and Strengthen your intuition

  • Practice daily: look, feel, listen, and receive.
  • Use your gift actively in real-world decisions.
  • Stay open, curious, and nonjudgmental.

Like any skill, your intuition grows through consistent use. Every time you follow it, the connection becomes clearer and stronger. As you build trust in your inner guidance system, you’ll begin to see your life shift in powerful, positive ways.
