Spirituality Is Not One-Size-Fits-All
Spirituality is as unique as each being in creation. While there are principles and teachings you may choose to follow, none of them are mandatory. True spiritual awakening means following your unique spiritual path and staying true to your authentic self.
Yet many people feel pressure to conform to an idealized version of what an ‘awakened soul’ should look like i.e. how they dress, speak, and even what they believe.
Growing Up Surrounded by Free Spirits
I spent my first decade in the 1960s, surrounded by the blossoming Hippie movement. I was too young to grasp the full significance, but I do remember the happiness around me.
The music was rich and free. βMake Love, Not Warβ was the mantra of the decade as people sought alternatives to post-war values. Self-expression and acceptance were encouraged. People viewed the world as one huge ecosystem – Gaia – for whom we all shared responsibility.
The Hidden Irony of Group Culture
The Hippie movement wasnβt just about values; it had a look:
- Long hair, jeans, and peace sign-covered army jackets for men
- Women in similar outfits or flowing skirts adorned with flowers
Thereβs a joke I first heard in 1970 that stayed with me:
A group of young people dressed as Hippies stand together. One boy in the same age group, wearing a crew cut and clean, pressed clothes, walks by. An old man asks the Hippies, βWhy are you dressed that way?β They reply in unison, βTo be different.β
Then the old man asks the clean-cut boy the same question. He smiles and answers, βTo be really different.β
The Hippiesβ faces shift from confusion to sadness as they realized that, while they were walking the walk of their group, the boy was walking his own path.
The New Age Version of the Same Story
Decades later, the Holistic and New Age movements have grown strong, encouraging people to own their power. Yet Iβve noticed many clients carrying a quiet burden:
They feel judged if they donβt perfectly embody the ‘lightworker standard’. Whether theyβre healers, readers, or life coaches, many find themselves stressed by subtle judgments i.e. feeling “less spiritual” for not dressing, speaking, or behaving in a certain way.
This quiet hurt shows up more often than you might think.
Discovering Your Unique Spiritual Path
There Are as Many Paths as There Are People
A channeled message once came through Kim:
“There are as many pathways back to Source as there are people incarnated.”
That idea holds so much truth. We are all expressions of the Divine, each working our way back to unity consciousness in our own way.
Every pathway is valid. How you express your spirituality is up to you.
There are no rules to being spiritual.
If you’ve ever felt judged or boxed in on your spiritual journey, you’re not alone. We offer personal healing and guidance sessions to help you reconnect with your unique path – without labels, pressure, or expectations.
